Michael Berkovich was born on April 29 th , 1959 in Leningrad , in Russiain the family of an officer. When he was a very young child the family moved to Siberia where they moved from place to place very often. Therefore he has been used to travelling since his early childhood. He graduated from the university and got the qualification of a chemist and biologist. While being a university student he combined studies of sciences with learning art and painting in the art college. When he was a third year university student he took part in several scientific expeditions organized by the Russian Science Academy . The participation in these research expeditions helped him get real education and led him to the genre of animalism. He also illustrated many scientific and popular scientific editions published at those years. He worked as a country teacher for some years after the graduation of the university and continued travelling aloug the country and painting as well. In three years after the graduation he began working as a scientific worker in the Science Academy in its laboratory of botany. He has never stopped painting and scientific activities since then. During the years of Perestoika in Russia the Academy of Science stopped practically its functioning and Michael had to leave his place of work. He worked in different publishing and printing houses. He also organized many private research scientific expeditions around Siberia . He organized more than ten exhibitions in Russia itself and abroad during the 90s. His works of art are kept in some museums and private collections in more than 20 countries around the world. In the year 2000 he leftRussia for Israel where he has been going on his creative activity since then.
